





































MARCOL’s founders and deal team members have international experience covering most main industries.
The team, distributed across four European offices, has an average of 25 years’ experience and offers a range of specialist skills. As well as leading investment professionals, corporate managers and accountants, the team includes international bankers and lawyers with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Mark is the joint founder of MARCOL and operational lead renowned for his intellect, deal-making skills and strong relationships. Mark’s contact base, experience in funding and cross border deal management coupled with his speed of decision making, financial acumen and commercial sensibilities continue to be one of the cornerstones of the group’s success.
MARCOL has evolved over 46 years into the successful and diverse private-investment business that it is today. MARCOL prides itself on long-term relationships with strong partners and puts its people at the forefront of its success.
Terence founded MARCOL with Mark Steinberg in 1976; he was the creative and conceptual influence within the company. He enabled, with his partner, for MARCOL to become the multi-billion-pound international investment group it is today.
Terence was a true visionary and joint driving force, with Mark, in the Group’s expansion. The values that Terence brought to the business helped shape who we are today. He impacted many lives and leaves an incredible legacy.
Terence sadly passed away on 19th December 2022; the Cole family continue as patrons and benefactors to many of the charities that Terence supported.
Ahmed joined MARCOL in September 2021 as an Analyst where he supports the investment team in the sourcing and execution of new private equity opportunities. Ahmed’s responsibilities include sourcing, evaluating and executing new investments, and providing support in strategic development, M&A, and monitoring of portfolio companies.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Ahmed worked at FTI Consulting in the Transaction Services group in London, advising private equity firms on financial due diligence matters. Before that, he started his career at Deloitte’s Financial Advisory team in Paris.
Ahmed holds a Master in Management from ESCP (France), and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Alun Baker joined GoodShape as CEO to drive the growth and international expansion of the business and to further develop the proposition’s impact on enterprise health.
In recent years, Alun has focused on scaling SaaS businesses, both software and services, through hyper-growth, internationalisation and multiple funding rounds.
Previous experience has comprised of management of a broad range of technology companies, including regional leadership at Oracle, Tibco software and Accenture, and as non-exec chairman of four fast-track companies.
Alyn joined MARCOL as a Company Accountant for City & General in 1999 and then moved onto accounts for CGIS. He became Financial Controller of Compco and C&G in November 2005 and was promoted to Group Finance Controller in May 2016.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Alyn was Accountant for Citroen Wells chartered accountants.
He has a BA in Economics from Sheffield University and is ACA qualified.
Brian Cole joined MARCOL in 2015. Previously he was CFO International Operations at London & Regional Properties. He has over 20 years of experience in real estate investment and corporate finance, including complex cross border transactions, M&A and capital raising. He has held senior finance roles in real estate, private healthcare and retail companies with investments and operations both in the UK and internationally.
Brian heads and controls the Group’s finance function to help MARCOL’s continued growth in real estate, healthcare and venture-capital operations in the UK, Europe and elsewhere.
With Compco Holdings plc since 1996, Antony remained with the company when MARCOL delisted it in 2003. He has responsibility for the management of the Chelsea Harbour Estate as well as a number of other properties throughout the UK.
Antony was a strong influence in the refurbishment of the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, which has contributed to the doubling of the annual rent roll. He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
Having gained experience as a surveyor for Norwich Union, CIN Properties, Peachey and Dutch company Wereldhave NV, Chris joined MARCOL in 2001. He is responsible for much of the asset management across the CGIS portfolio.

Claire took over the helm at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour in July 2010 and has driven it forward with considerable success, maintaining its position as one of the world’s leading design destinations.
She joined the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour from her role as Publishing Director at House & Garden magazine, the second biggest title in the Condé Nast portfolio.
Before moving into the position at House & Garden in 2003 Claire had been with Condé Nast Publications since 1991, working on Brides magazine as Publishing Director. She was promoted to the main board of Condé Nast in the same year.
Claire is also as a strategic board advisor with a particular focus on marketing, brand and communications.
Derek joined MARCOL in 2015 with over twenty years experience in the Technology, Strategy & Digital markets.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Derek held senior positions in organisations of varying sizes, from large corporations like the BBC and Microsoft, to innovative, market disruptive start-ups in sectors including healthcare, media and technology.
Derek’s role is to advise the Partners on strategies for developing optimised technology outcomes which meet their long term investment goals for Digital. He leads technology M&A and tech integration, and provides support and counsel for the technology leadership teams across MARCOL’s diverse portfolios.
Ed joined MARCOL in 2015 with more than 20 years’ experience within the health sector across the UK and Europe, the US and North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
Ed has built and managed several international healthcare businesses that included private-equity-backed operations in developed and emerging markets, as well as acquiring and integrating established companies across international regions. The health operations included care delivery, health technology & management, mental health, diagnostics and wellness. Prior to this he worked for the world’s largest healthcare business based out of the US, UnitedHealth Group, where he led their international health services & technology operations ‘Optum’.
Ed Watkins-Wright joined MARCOL as Finance Director in July 2016. Ed splits his time between Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour and other key investments including MARCOL Health.
After seven years as Head of Finance at London and Regional Properties (one of the UK’s largest Private Real Estate Companies), Ed has considerable experience in real estate investment and development finance. Furthermore, he has board experience in Healthcare, where he was a Director of BMI Healthcare.
Frank joined MARCOL Europe in September 2020 to support our companies in their numerous acquisitions and related financings both in the UK and across Europe.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Frank worked at Mason Hayes & Curran, a leading corporate law firm in Dublin where he was a partner in the corporate / M&A team. Frank is a seasoned M&A lawyer with over twenty years’ experience and has also worked with major UK and US law firms.
Frank holds a Bachelor of Arts from University College Cork and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the Law Society of England and Wales. Frank serves as a director of the National Oil Reserves Agency of Ireland.
Gabrielle Boillet joined MARCOL in November 2021 as an Analyst where she works with the investment team in sourcing, evaluating and executing new investments, as well as supporting strategic development of existing portfolio companies.
Before joining MARCOL, Gabrielle was an Analyst at BNP Paribas, in their Equity Capital Market division in London. She worked closely with public companies to originate, structure and execute equity-linked financings. Prior to that, Gabrielle also worked in Private Equity at Ardian within the Corporate Development team.
Gabrielle holds a BSc Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Bath and an MSc in Investment and Wealth Management from Imperial College London.
James joined MARCOL Health in November 2020 as Investment Manager supporting the growth and development of the MARCOL Health Portfolio. James’ responsibilities include sourcing, evaluating and executing new investments in the Healthcare sector, and providing support in strategic development, M&A, and monitoring of portfolio companies.
Before joining MARCOL, James was CEO and majority shareholder of a Healthcare Management Consultancy focusing on Primary Care. Prior to this he worked in Private Equity focusing on the UK mid-market, and began his career at PwC.
James holds a BSc Honours Degree in International Securities, Investment and Banking from the University of Reading, an MSc in Finance from Imperial College London, and is a qualified accountant with the ICAEW.
Jonathan (Jony) joined ALMCOR (formerly iSec), a MARCOL company, in September 2019 as CEO. He is charged with growing the existing business in the UK and in Europe and with developing a revitalised business strategy.
Prior to joining ALMCOR, Jony founded Harwood Real Estate, where he was responsible for the overall strategy of the real estate division of the wider Harwood Capital Management Group. During his time at Harwood, Jony directly sourced and transacted on in excess of £1.5bn of real estate investments.
Julie joined MARCOL in March 2005 as Executive Assistant to Mark Steinberg, with 20 years’ experience working at C-Suite level, Julie manages the day-to-day running of Mark Steinberg’s office.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Julie spent 20 years working in publishing as Executive Assistant to the CEO of a large publishing house.
Karen joined MARCOL in September 2005 as PA to Terence Cole and has since moved into the role of Business Affairs Manager to Mr Cole, providing support in all areas of the business as well as managing the day-to-day running of Mr Cole’s office.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Karen spent 17 years at investment bank Lazard, as Executive Assistant to the CEO, and before this worked for a quantity surveyors, a software company and an insurance company.
Maria joined MARCOL in February 2021 as Investment Associate. Her role is to coordinate and develop the reporting process for Space Plus and to oversee the existing Space Plus portfolio performance.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Maria worked as Portfolio Analysis Manager for Legal and General Investment Management, and previously as a portfolio analyst for a London based family office focusing on UK and European real estate assets.
Maria holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Victoria in Canada.
Matthes joined MARCOL’s investment team in February 2021 as a Senior Investment Manager and is responsible for sourcing, evaluating and executing new investments. He also supports the monitoring and strategic development of existing portfolio companies.
Before joining MARCOL, Matthes worked at Citigroup in their Industrials M&A group in London and then moved into a growth investing and portfolio management role at Virgin Management Limited, Richard Branson’s family office. Matthes also spent three years at the Avington Group where he performed advisory and investment work in the hospitality, real estate and consumer industries.
Matthes holds an MSc in Finance from Bocconi University and Bachelor Degrees in Economics and Business Administration and Japanese Studies from Goethe University Frankfurt.
Mark joined MARCOL Health at the beginning of 2019 as Investment Director supporting the ongoing growth and development of the MARCOL Health Portfolio. Mark’s responsibilities include sourcing, evaluating and executing new investments in high growth companies in the Healthtech sector, as well as providing ongoing support in strategic development, M&A structuring, and monitoring of existing portfolio companies.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Mark worked for a private equity firm focusing on pan-European deals within the technology and healthcare sectors, having formerly worked at PWC as Senior Associate in their Strategy team.
Mark holds a BBS Honors Degree in Business Studies from Trinity College Dublin.
One of the founders of Industrial Securities, Nigel joined MARCOL in 1994 with a wealth of experience in multi let industrial investment and development.
His previous roles include 10 years in private practice with DTZ, Senior Project Manager at Skillion and Development Manager with the Commercial Lending Division at Halifax Building Society where he managed a large portfolio of distressed assets. Nigel is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
Peter joined ALMCOR (formerly iSec) in September 2019 as Head of Active Value to assist in the operation of the existing business and develop new strategies. Specialising in asset and transaction management, Peter was previously CIO at Harwood Real Estate for 10 years overseeing over £1bn of transactions in this time.
A Chartered Surveyor since 1998, Peter has over 25 years experience in commercial and residential sectors having also previously been a Director with Savills and joint manager of a £500m private UK property fund.
Patrick joined MARCOL in April 2020 as Head of Finance and Operations in the Luxembourg office. He leads the Luxembourg Finance team, supporting the Groups transactions, corporate governance, financial reporting and processes for MARCOL’s investments across Europe.
Before joining MARCOL, Patrick worked for Diapason Gestion S.A as Vice President of Finance for eight years and prior to that, was an Assistant Manager at PWC in Switzerland working in Banking and Regulatory Audits, Capital Markets and Real Estate Funds.
Patrick holds a Master of Science in Accounting, Control and Finance, a Bachelor of Science in Management from HEC Lausanne and is a qualified Swiss CPA.
Pii joined MARCOL in 2007 from Clyde & Co, where he had been a partner since 2000, to focus on MARCOL’s acquisitions and existing investments across Europe.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Pii had a particular focus on large ticket cross-border investments in emerging markets, working extensively in Asia, Latin America, Middle East, Former Soviet Union and Africa.
In addition to his investment work at MARCOL, Pii is an active start up investor through his family portfolio, and an avid supporter of a number of European initiatives to create growth in Europe. In his native Finland Pii is a founder member of the Start Up Sauna Foundation, which supports SLUSH, the largest non-profit start up event in the world.
As part of his pro bono work, Pii has held a number of leadership positions at the International Bar Association. He is also past board member of the Finnish-British Chamber of Commerce and the Slynn Foundation.
Pii and his family’s charitable work focuses on education and science, both in Europe and outside. Pii is fluent in Finnish, English, Swedish and Italian.
Ranjan joined in September 2019 to create MARCOL’s major telehealth platform HealthHero, for which he is CEO. Through a combination of buy-and-build and scaling up of the existing portfolio, HealthHero is now the largest telehealth company in Europe.
Ranjan is a digital executive, entrepreneur and investor with over 20 years experience spanning corporate, start-up and private equity. Prior to joining MARCOL, Ranjan was with a European PE firm, Penta Investments, leading their investments in digital health and also digital transformation of portfolio companies. Before that, Ranjan was an entrepreneur and founded isango.com, an online tours & activities platform which was acquired by TUI. His entrepreneurial venture followed leadership roles in Expedia and Ebookers.
Ranjan has held several non-exec director positions and is an active investor and adviser to start-ups. He holds a BTech in Engineering from National Institute of Technology in India and an MBA from INSEAD.
Rebekah joined MARCOL in September 2019 as Managing Director – Investor Relations and Business Development. Rebekah works closely with the Chairmen, Terence Cole and Mark Steinberg, and the senior management team in the UK and Europe to introduce new business growth opportunities and investor relationships across a diverse range of sectors in private equity and real estate.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Rebekah worked at M7 Real Estate as Divisional Director in the investor relations and capital raising team. Previously, she held various roles at CBRE in New York and London before moving to Cushman & Wakefield as a Partner in the London-based cross border capital markets team with primary responsibility for capital flows from North America into Europe.
Rebekah has over 15 years of real estate experience, she also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from San Diego State University, during which time she completed a special study in English Literature at the University of Cambridge. Rebekah is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
With MARCOL since 1986, Robert asset manages part of the diverse UK portfolio, as well as a Central and Eastern European retail portfolio, which includes properties in Poland and Czech Republic.
Robert is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and Liveryman of the Chartered Surveyors’ Company.
Romain Weber joined MARCOL in November 2019 as Investment Director. Romain supports the investment team in the sourcing and execution of new private equity opportunities. He also advises the existing portfolio companies on strategic corporate finance matters and business development.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Romain worked for a private investment fund involved in public and private markets. Before that, he was an Associate Director in the investment banking division of HSBC where he held various M&A and Corporate Finance advisory roles in London and Dubai.
Romain holds a Masters in Finance from London Business School and is a graduate from Sciences Po Strasbourg in France.
Rupert joined ALMCOR (formerly iSec), a MARCOL company, in December 2020 as Head of Strategic Land. He is overseeing the delivery of the ALMCOR development portfolio as well as working with the team to grow the existing business in the UK and in Europe to deliver the business strategy through new transactions, JV’s and partnerships.
Prior to joining ALMCOR, Rupert worked for St. Modwen Properties Plc, where for 13 years he was part of the Executive Team responsible for a number of business units as a Regional Director and more recently as Property Director – Asset Management with responsibility for the Group’s £750M income generating portfolio as well as being Chair of the CSR Steering Group. Prior to St. Modwen, Rupert was at Lendlease as a Senior Development Manager.
Rupert has been a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) since 1997 and is currently the Chair of LandAid’s Midlands Region Board.
Saarung Shah joined MARCOL in December 2021 as Senior Strategy Associate. He is responsible for undertaking market research and mapping, commercial due diligence on new investments and acquisitions, and working with portfolio companies on strategic projects post-acquisition.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Saarung worked as an investment professional focused on venture and growth capital investment at BGF and Ingenious, and as a strategy consultant focused on commercial due diligence and corporate strategy.
Saarung holds a BSc Economics degree from the University of Nottingham.
Scott joined MARCOL in November 2013 as Financial Accountant for the CGIS Group and CGIS 3 portfolios, before moving to ALMCOR (formerly iSec) in September 2018 to head up financial processes and reporting for both the asset management portfolio and the development projects.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Scott was Audit Senior at Haysmacintyre, where he became ACA qualified.
Scott holds a Bsc (Hons) in Accounting and Financial Management from Loughborough University.
Steffen joined MARCOL in November 2020 as Investment Director. He is responsible for originating and executing new Real Estate investment opportunities and for spearheading the expansion of MARCOL’s self-storage platform in Germany.
Prior to joining MARCOL, Steffen worked in the Real Estate investment teams at Blackstone, PIMCO and Deutsche Finance International. He has experience in working across all Real Estate asset classes and has been involved in several high-profile transactions across multiple European jurisdictions, with a primary focus on Germany, Spain and Portugal.
Steffen holds a MSc Finance degree from the London School of Economics.
Stephen has more than 30 years’ experience in real estate. Before joining MARCOL in 1996, he was Founder and Managing Director of London-based property company Houston Lawrence.
When the Group expanded its interests into Europe in 2004, Stephen established a team in Luxembourg to assemble an industrial and logistics portfolio across several European countries. Stephen is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
Steven was instrumental in the formation of City & General on joining MARCOL in 1994. He continues to expand the company’s interests in the UK with a strong bias towards central London.
Prior to MARCOL, Steven spent 22 years as Managing Partner at Baker Lorenz where he was responsible for the agency and investment division.
Victoria joined MARCOL in 2006 to take responsibility for Group Operations: this includes HR, communications, corporate and portfolio insurance.
With previous experience gained in the United States and Asia Pacific, Victoria is involved in the recruitment of all key positions across the Group. She has implemented a successful integration programme for the team to ensure the company culture and values are known and understood.
Victoria Cavanagh joined MARCOL as a Business Analyst in March 2016. She was promoted to Senior Associate Director – Technology in September 2019 and now provides digital transformation and product expertise for technology developments across the group.
Previously she worked in Business Analyst roles for Public Health England and the University of Ottawa Heart institute in Ontario, Canada, developing process and IT improvements within their business systems and applications.
Victoria holds an MA in British and European History from the University of Oxford.
Watkin joined ALMCOR (formerly iSec) in June 2020. As Chief Operating Officer he is responsible for managing all non-investment and finance related functions within the business.
Watkin is a twenty year + PQE solicitor specialising in financial services regulation and general corporate law. During this period, he has held a variety of board level, senior management and operational roles at leading city institutions including Flagstone Investment Management, Clifford Chance and Fidelity Investments. His experience includes real estate, private equity, asset management (retail and alternative), investment banking, lending, payment services and trading.
For the past sixteen years Watkin has also been a visiting lecturer at the London School of Economics and is a serving Magistrate on the West Kent Bench.
